coaching

Why use a coach?

Want to change your life? Coaching is a way of achieving the change you want in your life. It gets you from where you are now to where you want to be. It’s like going on a car journey. We find a lot of our clients want to drive to a Town called ‘More Time’ but they’re not quite sure where it is, or how to get there.

Employing a coach is bit like fitting Satellite Navigation to your car. Instead of driving round and round in circles feeling lost and frustrated, you’ve got someone with you to support you, someone who knows where you want to go. They help you to find a route and get you around road blocks. They want you to arrive safely at your destination but won’t get emotionally involved in your journey. They’re a neutral party with no agenda other than yours. They support, but they never drive. You sit in the driving seat. You determine your speed, direction and destination, you can change it whenever you want. You are in charge.

Often people don’t achieve their goals because they get stuck, or give up mid journey. As NLP (neuro linguistic programming) coaches we have a whole host of tools to help if you find yourself stuck on the road mid journey. With Coaching you’ll probably reach your destination faster than you would have done otherwise. You just have to be committed to getting there.

How do we work? All coaches work differently here’s the process we follow.

Step one

Initial conversation
We establish what your goals and outcomes are. We consider if coaching is the right thing for you, if you’re ready for coaching and if we’re the right people to coach you. If we don’t think we are we‘ll refer you on to somebody else.

Step two

Analysis
We spend a two hour session (seems like a long time but we promise it flies) really getting to know about you, your goals and aspirations. You’ll be required to do some self analysis too. At this point most clients are surprised by what they learn about themselves!

Step three

Begin your programme
We design a programme tailored to what you want to achieve. You work with your coach for a pre agreed number of coaching sessions to move towards your goal.
Typically programmes run over 2 – 3 months. There are a series of pre-arranged coaching phone calls or face to face meetings that last 45 minutes. No two coaching clients will ever have the same programme, because no two people are ever the same. The coaching will go where you want it to go to achieve your goals.

Step 4

Final review session
The idea of coaching is that it doesn’t need to go on forever. We’re available for ongoing support if it’s needed but we’d like to think at the end of a programme you’ll have achieved or be well on the way to achieving what you set out to. At this stage we think about how you can use and sustain the insights, knowledge and learning gained from the coaching.

frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between coaching and NLP coaching?

In a nutshell NLP is way of modelling excellence. It looks at what people who are excellent do to achieve their excellence. It then distils this excellence into its component parts so that that others can copy it. In essence it provides recipes for success that others can follow. For example, people who manage their time excellently tend not to put things off or procrastinate. In a coaching session a client may recognize that procrastinating is holding them back. This knowledge alone may not be enough to allow them to take action because they don’t know how to start behaving in a different more proactive way. NLP can provide a number of excellence processes that could be used in this situation to help an individual change their behaviour and beliefs about procrastination enabling them to stop procrastinating and move forward.

How does coaching work on the phone?

Coaching can be done face to face or over the phone. Phone coaching tends to be more time efficient. Some people prefer the fact that it is slightly more anonymous. As long as you are in a quiet and private environment coaching sessions over the phone are highly effective.

How is coaching different from just discussing things with a friend?

Discussing things with a friend is often a useful thing to do. However, friends have opinions and agendas even if they are well meaning. The kind of conversation you’ll have with a coach will be quite different from the kind of conversation you’ll have with a friend. Through the use of skilled questioning a good coach will provide an excellent sounding board and allow you to become clear about what you want and how you need to move forward. You friends are experts in being your friends, not in being your coach.
